World Hospice & Palliative Care Day

Image World Hospice and Palliative Care Day takes place on the second Saturday in October each year.  This year the event will be held on Saturday 11 October 2008 with the theme: "Hospice and palliative care: a human right".

The aims of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day are to share our vision to increase the availability of hospice and palliative care throughout the world, to raise awareness and understanding of the needs of people living with life limiting illness and their families, and to raise funds to support and develop hospice and palliative care services around the world.

World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, organized by the Worldwide Palliative Care Alliance, was first held in 2005 when more than 1,100 activities were held in 74 countries.

You are invited to be involved in activities in your local area.  For more information visit the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day website where you can post the activities you are planning to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care.
